remembering Grandpa

My Grandpa Kleinhuizen went home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning. He battled cancer for a long time and it was amazing to see how at peace he was when he died. It was so hard to have him go, but at the same time it would be selfish for me to wish he was here any longer. He is finally free from all the pain and suffering here on earth and is experiencing something SO much better in heaven. The pastor had so many encouraging words to say over the last two days, but I especially liked when he said that Grandpa wasn't facing death...he was facing LIFE!

I've loved hearing the stories about Grandpa and how incredibly faithful he was to his God, all the way until his death. I am so thankful for such a strong pillar of faith and the foundation that he built for our family. The example Grandpa set for all of us was one of faith, strength and courage. It was also amazing to see the love and commitment that my grandparents had for each other. We are so blessed by both of them.

Grandpa loved little kids and we saw that so often in recent years as he played with his great-grandchildren. It made me sad that my kids will never know their Great-Grandpa. Those moments are hard, as we thought we would have our own children by now and that they would have experienced knowing these wonderful people in our life. Yet all we can do is trust and remember that God has everything planned out for us. We may not always understand, but that's what faith is all about.

We will miss Grandpa here on earth. Every time we went to visit him and Grandma, he jumped out of his chair to greet us at the door with a hug and a hello. But instead, I now picture HIM being greeted by Jesus and hearing the words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant".

Please keep my Grandma and family in your prayers, as we adjust to life with Grandpa. As we sang today, "All I have needed thy hand has provided...Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me".
